Swedish Bakery
Swedish Bakery
In either 1928 or 1929, in the heyday of Andersonville’s Swedish business district, the "Swedish Bakery" was one of many bakeries on the strip. Today it's the sole survivor. The bakery was opened by someone named Johnson, but whose first name is, for the time being, lost to history. after two generations in the johnson family, the bakery was sold to ernst carlson, who in turn sold it to Gosta Bjuhr in 1964. Marlies Stanton, who trained as a pastry chef in Europe, arrived at the bakery in 1971 and, following an eight-year tenure, became its latest owner in 1979. Over the ensuing decade, her three children joined the operation, and in 1992 the Swedish Bakery underwent a considerable expansion in size. Today it remains one of the strongest draws in Andersonville, with its wide assortment of cakes, tortes, pastries, breads, coffeecakes, cookies, and other assorted treats.
