The Cape Cod Room
The Cape Cod Room
The cozy Cape Cod Room has been serving seafood at the Drake Hotel not just to locals, but to foreign dignitaries and international celebrities, since December 1933. ronald reagan, mickey rooney, jerry lewis, jimmy stewart, bob hope, clint eastwood, gene hackman, richard gere, julia roberts, tom cruise, michael jordan, and oprah winfrey have all dropped anchor and sauntered in for some classic seafood. Drop by for a drink and see if you can find the spot where Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe carved their initials into the bar, just like jack benny and so many others.
The Cape Cod Room is defined by its nautical theme (hanging copper pots, red-checkered napkins, and seafaring accessories, among other oceanic accoutrements), and the customers speak highly of such delicacies as the red snapper-based Bookbinder soup (an homage to the late Bookbinder's of Philadelphia), as well as the steamed lobster, the king crab legs, and the crab cakes. There's also a wonderful oyster bar.
