wilmette is an affluent north shore village conveniently located about 14 miles from the chicago loop, between evanston and kenilworth, lake michigan and the edens expressway. best known for its beautiful lakefront, charming, tree-lined, brick streets, and green lanterns, wilmette is a quiet place with just enough retail to serve the daily needs of the residents, who primarily work and shop elsewhere. for this reason, it has often been described as a “bedroom community.” access is a cinch, which is one reason why wilmette is so desirable. aside from its close proximity to the expressway, it can be reached on both the cta purple line (the final stop from downtown chicago) and the metra union pacific north line. the public schools are exceptional, and the older kids funnel into new trier (there’s a separate campus for freshmen), which is consistently rated as one of the best public schools in the country.
