Let's face it:  Apartment searches are a bit overwhelming, and it can be hard to focus on the details during a hurried inspection in the middle of a hectic day.  For that reason, we at domu created a handy-dandy apartment inspection checklist to serve all your "due diligence" needs.  Many of the items on the checklist are set forth below, but we highly recommend that you print out the form contained in the Appendix of our Tenant Guide and take it with you during your tour.

• Appearance of facade
• Tuckpointing
• Landscaping
• Porches
• Security & admission of visitors (doorman / gates / cameras)
• Exterior lighting

• Check ceilings for evidence of water damage
• Check walls for evidence of cracking paint, plaster, or drywall
• Turn on all lights
• Turn on kitchen appliances
• Check kitchen faucet water temperature and pressure
• Open refrigerator and freezer
• Check for and activate garbage disposal
• Open kitchen cabinetry and cupboards and check for evidence of rodents or leaks
• Check bathroom faucets (sink and shower) water temperature and pressure
• Check bathtub and shower for evidence of mold, moisture, or drainage problems
• Inspect bathroom cabinetry for evidence of rodents or leaks
• Flush toilets
• Inquire about size and location of water heater
• If the unit has its own furnace, check for evidence of rusting, chipping, or debris
• Open and close, lock and unlock all doors, including entry door
• Check for deadbolt on entry door
• Open and close windows
• Test blinds, shades, or window coverings
• Inspect closet floors and other dark areas for evidence of rodents
• Check number and location of electrical outlets and telephone jacks and test all outlets for power
• Check for smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
• Inspect trash room
• Inspect laundry room

• Doorman / mail handling
• Laundry room

• Neighborhood amenities
