The Northwest Side has a good mix of working class neighborhoods and historic districts within Chicago. Neighborhoods such as Portage Park, which was once a destination for fashionable shopping in post-war Chicago, and Old Irving Park abound with classic bungalows.
Small storefronts still populate Milwaukee Avenue, the main conduit for this cluster of formerly blue-collar neighborhoods. Don’t be surprised to see signs displaying businesses in such varied languages as Polish, Spanish and Korean in this part of Chicago. Residents in this region rely on the Blue Line and I-90 for quick access to downtown Chicago.
