Neighborhood Vibe

Logan Square is a Chicago neighborhood that has undergone a renaissance of sorts over the past decade, transforming from a working-class enclave to a hotbed for artists, chefs and other bohemian types. Classic greystones are easily spotted on the green edges of the boulevards, along with stately mansions and vintage courtyard apartment buildings. Single family homes are found in abundance on Logan Square’s quiet streets, giving the community a homely feel that can easily be observed while strolling to get a cup of coffee or pick up fresh produce at the weekend farmer’s market on the square.

Heart of the Neighborhood

Palmer Square is a favorite among locals. This seven-acre green space was envisioned back in the 1870s as part of the city’s boulevard system and still serves as a popular congregating space for residents today.

What We Love Most

While it’s not the only neighborhood in Chicago built around the Park Boulevard System, Logan Square’s namesake park has a quirky feature that you won’t find in other Chicago communities.  The Comfort Station appears to be a humble Tudor-style cottage from the outside. But the small building at the northwest intersection of Milwaukee Avenue and Logan Boulevard has survived decades of disuse and neglect, was saved from the wrecking ball more than a few times, and today it’s a gathering space and non-profit organization that serves the community of Logan Square. It has come a long way since its original design as a warming house built by the West Chicago Parks Commission, a predecessor to the current Chicago Park District. Today, residents can gather in a space that’s restored to match its original 1920s appearance but with an expanded mission for modern times. The Comfort Station regularly hosts art exhibitions, workshops, lectures and film showings for the community.

Best Way to Get Around

The CTA Blue line has service to downtown and O’Hare, making Logan Square an ideal place to rent for folks who like the value of living a bit further outside of downtown while still being able to travel at a moment’s notice. The Kedzie Ave and Fullerton Ave buses are convenient for most short trips and of course there are many bike-friendly streets as well as the 606 trail at the neighborhood’s south edge.
