Unique Features
It’s a studio that doesn’t feel like one. The kitchen is a separate room with its own window, so you’re not cooking next to your bed, and the walk-in closet leads through to a bathroom that also has a window. The gas stove and oven are brand new. Fiber internet, water, gas and trash are included in the rent (bring your own router), there’s no security deposit, and you’d sign your own lease directly with the building through June 30, 2027, so it’s a clean start rather than a sublet. Applications go through BJB: $195 plus a $75 credit check per applicant.
Interior Highlights
The light. Big windows look out over the city from the 17th floor, with a glimpse of the lake, and the crown molding gives it more character than most studios. The kitchen is its own room with a window, granite counters, a dishwasher, a microwave and a gas stove and oven installed this August. The walk-in closet leads through to the bathroom, which also has a window and a full tub, and there’s a second closet in the main room. You get real storage without giving up living space, and the main room easily fits a bed, a desk, and a small table.
Best Things About the Building
The rooftop deck is the best part: views of the Hancock and a glimpse of the lake, with tables and lounge chairs for summer evenings. The fitness room is right next to it on the top floor, with treadmills, ellipticals and big windows over the city. There’s overnight door staff, an elevator and laundry in the building, and cats are welcome. It’s a classic Gold Coast building with character, but it’s well kept, and management is responsive and easy to work with.
Best Things About the Neighborhood
You can walk almost anywhere. Oak Street Beach and the lakefront path are about 10 minutes away, and the Magnificent Mile, Water Tower Place and the restaurants and shops on Rush and Oak Streets are a few blocks over. The Red Line’s Chicago stop is close by for getting downtown or up north. Northwestern’s Chicago campus, Northwestern Memorial and Lurie Children’s are a short walk, and Loyola’s Water Tower campus is two blocks away, which makes it an easy commute for students, residents and anyone working in Streeterville.
Why It's Worthy of Calling Home
It’s a quiet, comfortable place in the middle of everything. I’ve loved coming home to the city views, cooking in a kitchen that’s actually separate from where I sleep, and spending evenings on the rooftop. I’m only leaving because a new remote job means I need room for a home office. For one person who wants to live in the Gold Coast at a fair price, it’s hard to beat.
